报告题目:Magnetic Watermelon Nanoparticles: Nanomagnetism and Applications

报告简介:

Understanding the fundamental physics of antiferromagnetic- ferromagnetic interactions is essential to apply magnetic nanoparticles (NPs) in different applications. Undoped and Cr-doped and core-shell iron/iron-oxide NPs have been synthesized using a cluster deposition system and advanced investigations have been conducted with respect to their nanostructures, morphologies, sizes, chemical composition, stability, electrical and magnetic properties. The nanomagnetism of Fe based NPs shows the strong dependence of intra/inter-particle interactions on NP size, and interaction reversal from dipolar to exchange interaction. A theoretical model of watermelon-type NPs is constructed based on the experimental results and core-shell NP system in order to explain the physics of exchange interaction in magnetic nanoparticles. The watermelon-type MNPs have been utilized for cancer treatment, spent nuclear fuel recycling, and environmental remediation of heavy metal water pollutions.

报告人简介:

Dr. You Qiang is a professor of physics and core-faculty in the Nuclear Energy Program at the University of Idaho and Idaho National Laboratory (INL), USA. He was a chairman (2012-2014) and a fellow of Idaho Academy of Science. He received his MS degree at the Harbin Institute of Technology and Chinese Academy of Space Technology in 1985, and a Ph.D. degree 1997 at the University of Freiburg, Germany. He was a research faculty at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 1999 to 2002. Dr. Qiang’s research focuses on magnetism and magnetic nanomaterials. He has published more than 110 refereed papers and 4 book chapters, more than 120 invited talks at national and international conferences, world-class universities and institutions, and served on national and international conference organizations and committee. He is also the member of editorial board for scientific journals: IEEE Magnetic Letters, Nanomaterials and Journal of Nanoparticles.
